I was told that the library is accepting food donations in lieu of money for fines this month. Is this true?

Answer

Yes, each year we support the food banks with a "Food for Fines" program (generally we do this in late November or early December). During this period, we will accept food in lieu of money for fines payments.

The dates for the "Food for Fines" program varies each year. Please check in with library staff if you are interested in "paying" your fines this way.

We will "forgive" or waive up to a maximum of $20 on your library account if you bring in some food donations for the Food Bank. For each item that is donated, we will waive $2 per item (to the maximum of $20 in total fines.) For example, if you bring in 5 food items, we will "forgive" $10 on your account.

The food must be non-perishable. We cannot accept food with expired "best by" dates. There are other options available during this program, so please check in at the main loan desk if you have further questions.
