Why do some call numbers start with a number? Aren't they supposed to start with a letter combination?

Call numbers that start with numbers usually belong to items in the Curriculum Library, which uses the Dewey Decimal system.

McPherson Library uses the Library of Congress system, whch starts with letters. For example, the book Symbols of Canada is held at both locations. It has the call number 929.9 S95 2002 at the Curriculum Library, and CR212 S95 2002 at the Main Library.

Please see the Curriculum Library homepage for more information.
