I cannot find the book I want on the shelf. What do I do?

Answer

Check the location. For example, it may be in Basement Compact Shelving, Reserve, Reference, or at the Curriculum Library.

Check the adjacent areas on the shelf in case someone has put it back in the wrong spot.

Check the shelves and book trucks in the sorting area on the floor where it should be shelved. The items will be in call number order. Look on the maps for the location of the sorting areas on each floor.

Ask at the Loan Desk. Staff can check for recently returned items, and can place a trace on the item for you, if needed.

If you have put a trace on an item, and it has not been found in a week, you may request it from Interlibrary Loan.
