Items in UVicSpace are not only available for search and discovery, in most cases users can access the full text (or the entire video, image set, and so forth). Content in UVicSpace can be found through Google and Google Scholar, which search the items' metadata to locate relevant articles. The full text of most documents can be searched while inside UVicSpace.

Another benefit for searchers is the content found in UVicSpace is free to read and download—no need to pay a cost-per-view or a journal subscription or to be affiliated with an institution that does. In some cases material is also available faster, before a traditional publication is released.
