According to the law what age can a child be left alone at home?

Answer

There is no legislation or law in British Columbia that specifies at what age a child can be left alone at home.  The British Columbia Ministry of Child and Family Services (250-952-6062)  recommends around 12 years of age but consideration must be given to maturity of the child, ability to access help, the child’s comfort level, amount of time they will be left alone, etc. It is an individual decision for each family.
