What is GIS?

Answer

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is computer-based mapping which combines map layers with statistics or data, and can be used for statistical and geographic analysis.

For example, GIS is used to create interactive online maps: Land use change and CRD Atlas.  Also see the Geospatial data guide.
