What is WorldCat? How do I find it?

Answer

WorldCat lets you search the collections of libraries around the world.  This is useful for many reasons, including:

  • to verify a book citation
  • to find a book that we don't have, so you can request it from Interlibrary Loan
  • to find a book we don't have in another local library, such as Greater Victoria Public Library
  • to see what other editions exist of particular book
  • to see what other books an author has written
  • to track down translations of a book, or that book in different formats (ebook, audiobook, etc.)
  • to discover what is available at a library you plan to visit

Find a link to worldcat on the Books&More tab at http://www.uvic.ca/library/ (to see worldcat with UVic Libraries links) or go directly to Worldcat.org
