Can you help me research?

Answer

A librarian can help you find materials and advise you about best practices in legal research, but cannot explain or interpret the law to you. Librarians are available for walk-in consultations at the research help desk and by appointment at other times. See our website for hours and contact info.

Legal materials are highly organized, so navigating them is quite efficient if you know some of the ropes. Typically problems arise from lack of familiarity with vocabulary and lack of context, meaning sometimes substantial self-education is necessary before the significance of the details can be understood.

These problems are widely recognized, since even experienced lawyers encounter them regularly. A librarian can direct you to the best methods for bridging these and other gaps, but actually reading and understanding the law is your job.
